Today is all about my favorite port we went to: Dubrovnik, Croatia!
I had zero preconceived expectations for Dubrovnik because I didn't know much about it, other than it being the site of King's Landing on Game of Thrones. I am a HUGE GoT fan so I was pretty excited about this port. Well, it turns out I was absolutely captivated by the medieval magic of Old Town, which is everything you see inside the walls. The Middle Ages are my favorite history period, and because Old Town is perfectly preserved (or carefully reconstructed in some parts), I was having all kinds of history ogasms, as I playfully call it. I can see why it was chosen as a filming location for Game of Thrones. Now every time I watch it I'm always on the lookout for familiar views. And while I was there I was also trying to figure out which scenes were filmed where.
So because this photo diary is so massive, I've divided it into sections. I'll start with my outfit + details and then take you through my day.
*My fellow GoT nerds: Keep scrolling near the end for a whole section on GoT.*

My absolute favorite image from that day. |

This part of the wall was featured on GoT as The House of the Undying. More on that at the end of the post. |

So windy! |
ENTERING OLD TOWN

Crown ring in honor of the coveted Iron Throne of King's Landing (such a nerd) 👑😊 |
WALKING THROUGH OLD TOWN
|
The dots on the left illustrate the extensive damage to Old Town after the war in the 90's. |
|
So because Dubrovnik is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, they received enough funds to reconstruct a lot of the damaged areas. You can easily spot what has been reconstructed because of the difference in color (like the steps above). |
|
Note the reconstructed areas. |
|
Orange trees abound in Dubrovnik. |
|
There are elevated passageways like this in every intersection of the main street in Old Town, to the left and right. All of the streets inside the walls are pedestrian only, with the occasional exception. |
VIEWS FROM ATOP THE WALL

Love this sea of terracotta orange |
|
Fun story: This well and the aqueduct system that supplied the medieval villagers with fresh drinking water was built by an Italian guy named Onofrio who the Dubrovnik folk sought out given his previous successes bringing water to the people. |
|
The kayaking looked like so much fun. I'd love to go back for that. |
BACK DOWN FROM THE WALL

I took a bunch of pictures here thinking this is where Cersei started her Walk of Shame. After rewatching the series from start to finish again, I realized it wasn't. But I still feel like I've seen this place before! 🙈 |
|
LOVED that outfit on the left in a little shop next to where I took the above pictures. |
|
I ALWAYS see weddings when I travel. This trip was no exception!
And what a fairy-tale setting this is. ❤️ |

Walk of Shame paths!! |

Dubrovnik is absolutely breathtaking and worthy of a visit from the get go. But as you can imagine, GoT has brought a new kind of tourism in. There's even a Game of Thrones walking tour, which we were going to take by by the time we finished eating and going up the walls, we ran out of time. For sure on my next visit! |
|
So creepy. Lol |
|
This was the site of The House of the Undying but I didn't realize it in the moment so we didn't go up there. |
|
Site of Blackwater Bay |
|
All of this is where Cersei took her Walk of Shame! |
|
Walking in her footsteps, taking in all the shame. Lol |

A big congratulations and thank you for making it to the bottom of this post!
Stay tuned for Athens next or Marseilles next! Haven't decided yet.
This is my favorite medieval city! Oh, do not forget to look here https://topspying.com/!
