Taking Your Own Pictures

I was finally brave enough to venture on my first solo photo shoot (thank you to my godmother for my awesome tripod!). It was so much fun! People stared, but I didn't care. I knew exactly what I wanted to highlight in each shot, I didn't have to explain to my boyfriend or my mom what I wanted (although I'm very thankful for their past efforts!), and best of all, I didn't have to wait for someone to become available to be my photographer for half an hour.

By no means am I all of a sudden an expert on solo shooting. I have so much to learn, and I'm so excited to continue learning. Still, I learned a few lessons during my first time, and I'd like to share them with you. They're no-brainers, but I hope you'll find them useful.

Seasonless

Hey there, sleepy.
I've completely given up on winter. I kept waiting and waiting for it to cool down. It happened like 3 times this fall/winter. In 2010, it was so cold down here that thousands of fish died in the Everglades. Thousands.

Have you been to Kiki's Parlour?

Hi everyone! One of my goals for Earnestyle this year is to fill in the stretches of time between each of my posts with the work of other fabulous bloggers. I'm thrilled to start off with the amazing Kristina from Kiki's Parlour. I became a fan of hers from the minute I laid eyes on her sparkly Louboutins and her quirky, feminine style. Plus, she's like the nicest person ever. I hope you'll enjoy this brief introduction to her blog and her incredible style.

New Days, but not New Pants

I meant to post this outfit WAY sooner than 14 days after I wore it. That's right, folks: This is what I wore on New Year's Day, hence the title "New Days". I was really set on posting earlier today, too (yesterday, by the time you'll be reading this), but then the Golden Globes happened...

Favorites from 2012

The first half of 2012 treated me wonderfully. For example, I was involved in very meaningful work at a historically disadvantaged public high school, and I took a fabulous trip to Europe in June (which is what finally pushed me to create Earnestyle).

And then the second half was not so great. For example, I started graduate school, but it came at a high price (both literally and metaphorically-- I won't bore you with the details). This little blog of mine really grounded me by giving me something to look forward to in my immediate future. And I'm delighted that 136 people have found it interesting enough to follow along.

I'm not one to make resolutions, but in the spirit of that shiny, brand-new feeling that comes with each new year, I've made it my mission to make 2013 a year to look back on with a smile on my face.

So, back to the original purpose of this post: These are some of my favorite looks from 2012 my six months of blogging, in no particular order. I hope you'll tell me which ones you like most!

Happy new year, everyone! I hope 2013 treats you kindly, and that you'll actively work to make it a year to remember.

December Looks
