Polka Dots and Tie-Dye

This is what I wore on Christmas Eve. I decided to leave red and green for Christmas itself and opted for these rich plum and navy colors instead. Paired with a shiny bracelet and a cute ballerina bun, this outfit made me feel like a little Nutcracker ballerina.

What I Wore on Christmas

It's hard for me to believe that Christmas was yesterday. I mean, despite the warning signs since before Halloween, it still crept up on me out of nowhere.
Here are the two outfits that I wore on Christmas. The first was comfortable and casual, appropriate for opening presents with family. The second I wore at night, when my closest friends came over for our annual Christmas gathering. My day was so busy that I couldn't do an appropriate outfit shoot. But here's a taste of what I wore.

Merry in Miami

Guess what, world? It was actually cold in Miami yesterday! Not cool, not breezy; cold! Using Miami standards, of course. Hopefully winter  fall continues to grace us with its presence on Christmas.

Hey, Four Eyes.

New Camera!

I'm so happy to announce that these were the first pictures  to be taken with my brand-new Nikon D3000!

November Looks

Have YOU Voted Yet? | Chambray, Lace, and Leopard | Happy Turkey Day!

Here are all 3 of the looks I posted in November. Thank you so much for following this part-time obsession of mine despite my spotty blogging. You, dear readers, are very kind.

Which one do you like best?

Black Friday Madness

So since I haven't posted anything since good' ol Turkey Day, I thought I should tell you about Black Friday.

I went shopping with my mom, godmother, and cousin shortly after our delicious Cuban-style Thanksgiving dinner (yuco con mojo anyone?). Target, Best Buy, then 2 different malls (Macy's, Gap, JcPenney, LOFT, etc.). We got home at 11:00, THE NEXT MORNING.

I was in shoe heaven around 3 am.
You're probably wondering if we ate. If we were tired. If I almost fell asleep behind the wheel. If we even got good deals.

Somewhere around 5 in the morning we refueled at McDonald's. It's always weird when you haven't gone to bed yet and the sun starts to come out. Nature takes no notice of Black Friday. And it was so frustrating when the previously empty streets which were all mine all of a sudden became jam-packed with cars during the day. Who did those people think they are? Didn't they know I'd been out longer than them and the streets were rightfully mine?

By the time we got to LOFT, my favorite store, I wanted nothing else to do with anyone or anything. I found a comfy couch outside the store where I probably slept with my mouth wide open until everyone took mercy on me and decided to call it a night day.

I probably looked like this.
This is my boyfriend and I at 18 on our first cruise together.
You're welcome.
So was it worth it? Well, Black Friday is sort of a family tradition for us. It's not just about the deals. Nobody does Black Friday like my family does (if anyone else out there does, please let me know so I don't feel like a complete crazy). Plus I was able to get that DSLR after all (Nikon D3000), and I got two pairs of beautiful heels for next to nothing at Macy's. And I finished all my Christmas shopping! First time I get it done this early. So will I do it again next year? Probably. But definitely not until 11 am!

What's your Black Friday/Cyber Monday story?

Happy Turkey Day!

Guess what? This is (hopefully) the last time I will ever post photos taken with my point and shoot! In a few minutes I'll be in Black Friday land, on the hunt for a DSLR (among other things). So excited! Wish me luck. I'm gonna need it out there.

Chambray, Lace, and Leopard

Looking at my color-coordinated closet and my previous blog posts, it's pretty obvious that I don't own many yellow pieces. This is very strange because I went through a big yellow phase a couple of years ago. It was so serious that everybody got me yellow things for Christmas that year. So I've made it my mission to incorporate this lively color that I have forgotten about (who forgets yellow?) back into my ever-expanding wardrobe.

Have YOU Voted Yet?

Yesterday my mom got in line at the library at 2 pm. Around 4 pm she realized it might be a good idea to call me, since she had told me to wait for her so we can vote together on Saturday morning. So I rushed over after work and made it there by 4:30. Thanks to my mom, I only had to wait in line for 30 minutes. Score! Although it might have been even faster to vote on election day. Oh well.

October Looks

October was fun. There was Chic for a Week, Halloween Horror Nights, my 5th year anniversary, Halloween (my second-favorite holiday!). Too bad I only have 5 outfits to show for it. I promise, I didn't just wear pajamas the rest of the 26 days. I just didn't take pictures. Apparently my mom and boyfriend have other things to do with their lives that are more important than being my photographer. I know, right? How dare they.

Which outfit was your favorite?

Row 2: Halloween Horror Nights 2012 | 5 Years!
Note to self: Never post an uneven number of looks a month, because then the second row of my monthly recap has these weird blank spaces on the sides. Obsessive-compulsive much? Just a tad.

5 Years!

This Saturday marked 5 years that my boyfriend and I have been dating. Yep, you read that right. We've been together since we were 17. We're just as happy and in love as we've ever been. Some people find it super adorable. Others find it creepy.  One thing's for sure: we're a dying breed.

Halloween Horror Nights 2012

Last weekend I went to Halloween Horror Nights, an annual month-long, nighttime only event in Universal Studios featuring incredible haunted houses and spooky "scare zones" filled with scary people waiting to scare you in every corner. I was extra excited this year because of the strong Walking Dead theme. The series got its own haunted house (for which we stood in line for 2 and a half hours!), and there were creepy "walkers" (zombies) not just in the haunted house but ALL OVER the park too!
This is me doing "edgy". Because HHN is definitely edgy.

Never Have I Ever...

...worn $298 shoes before!

But did I pay that much for these exquisitely quirky Kate Spade polka dot pumps?

Say Hello to my Little Friend

Yesterday was a pretty rainy day. In true Miamian style, here I am wearing sandals. My new friend liked them.

Balance

There's something about mid-terms, papers, migraines, bad sleeping patterns, an increased appetite, and a short attention span that makes it really hard to maintain a blog.

So this post was supposed to be posted on the 1st; I thought I had scheduled it. Instead I scheduled my previous post to be posted yesterday, without ever having even announced the winner to my first giveaway! I'm so sorry everyone!

I want to thank everyone who entered my first giveaway, hosted by Eclectic Ornaments. It was so much fun to do and I think it went really well for my first time (despite the fact that this post was delayed)! The winner was Macie M. Congrats once again on winning!!

Secondly, here are all 4 of my September posts:

A Fall Wedding

My boyfriend's grandma's sister's grandson (gotta love extended families!) got married on Saturday to his girlfriend of 12 years, on their 12-year anniversary! Isn't that the cutest thing ever? They met in middle school, eventually started dating, and the rest is history. The wedding was at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, the beautiful church pictured below, in Miami Beach. The reception was at the Grove Isle Hotel and Spa in Coconut Grove.

Rain on my Blogging Parade

Row 2: Androgynous Chic | All About Emmy | A Little Self-Revelation

August was a pretty strange month for me, which is why I was only able to post 6 looks. For starters, I'm a student once again. Instead of planning outfits, going out, and taking pictures, I've been reading about community-based clinical practice, multicultural counseling, and premature termination of therapy. Not to mention job hunting. I know, sounds like fun.

The other factor was literally rain on my blogging parade: we had a little scare with Hurricane Isaac. Non-stop rain and ugliness for 5 days, including the weekend.

Next month shall be different! Hope you'll stop by to see what I come up with.

P.S. I'll be announcing a giveaway soon! Stay tuned!

My First Month of Blogging!

I created Earnestyle on the 4th of July, almost one month ago! I was ready to take my Lookbooking to the next level, and I was so inspired by all the fashion I saw during my trip to France and Spain in June that I decided to finally start blogging.

Here are the looks I blogged about in the inaugural month of Earnestyle, beginning with my outfits in Europe (June -- the 1st collage), and ending with my outfits here in Miami (July -- the 2nd collage). Thank you so much to those of you who have visited my blog, commented on my posts, and followed. Your support means the world to me!

"Print" Charming

As a gal of fun-sized stature, it's no wonder how much I love stores that carry petite sizes. These gorgeous graphic print pants from Loft are a petite 4, and even then they're still pretty long. Thank goodness for heels!

Mod Love

I ordered this dreamy vintage-y top from Modcloth last week and got it in the mail yesterday!

I also got details on their "Measures of Success" contest. To enter just write a product review that includes your full measurements and you may win a $100 Modcloth gift card. Contest ends July 31st.

And these babies... Forever 21 had every size but mine. Of course. They also don't have them online.

Everyday Mamey

Sadly, all vacations come to an end. A few days after I came back from Europe I had lunch with my best friend and we updated each other on all the latest happenings. This is what I wore.

Blogger Coincidence!

On June 25th, my parents and I were at Madrid's Parque del Retiro. We passed by these lovely ruins, took photos in the park, and were about to leave when I thought, "Those ruins would make a great backdrop for today's outfit!" So we turned back and I see a lovely young lady dressed in neon lemon and black, with a great neon yellow clutch to match. She was taking pictures in the same ruins, all by herself using her tripod.

Barcelona and Zaragoza

Barcelona, Day 1

The bus ride from Toulouse to Barcelona took 4 hours, so I dressed for comfort on my first day at this beautiful coastal city.

En Madrid

What I wore on June 24th in Madrid. I went to el Museo del Prado, La Plaza Mayor, El Palacio Real and its gardens, La Almudena cathedral, and many other beautiful places in this lovely city.

It looks like I'm all composed, but in reality it was SO HOT AND STICKY that day!
