I love this little gem of a site.
Construction began in 1672. First it was Spanish, then British, then Spanish again, and lastly American.
It's so rich with history. It's a little piece of Spain right here in Florida.

And this is Fort Matanzas, which was built in 1742 to defend the "back door" to St. Augustine and the Castillo de San Marcos. Sadly, we didn't have enough time to take the ferry over there.

I took pictures in 2 of those spots, the tower in the corner and out the garita window, right before they kicked us out when thunder started rumbling. I didn't know about Ft Matanzas
